Expectations following Knee Replacement
March 14, 2016
University Hospital Waterford held it's inaugural SE Orthopaedic Training Day - which was attended by over 100 nursing, physiotherapy and medical staff. I gave a lecture on realistic expectations following knee replacement surgery and the factors that influence patient satisfaction following surgery.
Currently 10 - 20% of patients worldwide are dissatisfied with their outcome. The primary driver of dissatisfaction is unmet expectations. Often patients have unrealistic expectations of knee replacement and we discussed this topic at length, stressing the importance of patient selection and pre-operative education All in all, a very enjoyable day was had by everyone!
