Oxford UniCompartmental Knee Replacement

February 10, 2019

Orthopaedic surgeons consider the knee to have three compartments - the inner (or medial), the outer (or lateral) and the area between the knee cap and the thigh bone (patellofemoral) compartments. Knee osteoarthritis most frequently begins in the medial or inner compartment, presenting with pain and discomfort with walking, typically eased by rest. The Oxford group developed a partial knee replacement, to resurface the inner or medial compartment only, sparing the normal outer and kneecap compartments.

I had the pleasure of being made most welcome by Mr William Jackson and his colleagues, where we performed two cases and discussed the pros and cons of partial knee replacement.

The Nuffield Center is a world renowned unit.
