Before you leave home, there a few things you should note:

  • There is parking available in front of the main building at Whitfield Clinic. The first 20 minutes are free of charge. There is a flat rate of €4 per day.

  • If you go to the main reception at the front entrance, they will direct you to my clinic. I am in Suite 1.

  • Bring any previous x-rays – reports, images etc.

  • It is useful to bring a pair of short for the clinical examination.

  • Bring a list of any medication that you are taking so we can verify the name and dosage. Likewise please bring details of any drug allergies.

  • Bring your health insurance details – Aviva, Glo, Laya, VHI etc.

  • Payment is due on the day, and can be made by cash, debit card, credit card or cheque. The fee is €180 for the first consultation, €100 for a follow-up consultation and €60 for an initial post-operative review for suture removal and dressing.

  • The following is a registration sheet that we ask you to fill out. You can do so when you arrive, or better still, you can do so in advance and email it to susan@iankellyortho.ie

Initial Consultation

  • Based on the detail in your referral letter, we quite likely will arrange for an x-ray prior to your consultation and then review you with your up-to-date x-ray study.

  • I may ask you to complete a short questionnaire regarding your pain.

  • A full history of your condition/problem is taken; so we understand the background to the complaint.

  • A thorough clinical examination is performed so we get a complete picture of the problem.

  • Here is a video of what to expect, should I need to examine your knee.

X Ray Investigation

Most patients will require an x-ray on the day - which may be either before or after their consultation. These are performed on-site at Whitfield Clinic. Payment for these x-rays will be taken at Admissions, where you will be directed to the x-ray department. You can expect to pay between €85 and €140. If a CT or MR scan is required, you may have to return another day, as they usually can’t be performed the same day.

Further Consultation with X Rays

Following your clinical examination and x-ray, we will discuss and plan your treatment. The non-operative and operative options will be discussed.

If surgery is required, we will co-sign the Surgical Consent Form. We will then book a date for surgery that suits you. You may be referred to the Pre-Assessment Unit for medical/anaesthetic evaluation. If you need a Joint Replacement, an appointment will be arranged for you to visit Jo Breheny in the Joint School for further advice, evaluation and education.
